Is varicose vein treatment painful?
Modern varicose vein treatments are designed to be as comfortable as possible. Most procedures are minimally invasive and performed with local anesthesia, which means you should feel little to no pain during treatment. Afterward, you may experience mild tenderness, bruising, or tightness for a few days, but these symptoms are typically temporary and manageable with over-the-counter pain medication if needed. Most patients are able to walk immediately after treatment and return to their normal routine within 24 to 48 hours.
How long does treatment take? Will I need time off work?
Most varicose vein treatments take 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the size and number of veins being treated. Because these procedures are minimally invasive and performed in the office, most patients can walk immediately afterward and return to work and other normal daily activities the same day or the next. Your provider will let you know if you should avoid strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for a short period during recovery.
How do I know if I'm a candidate?
If you have visible varicose veins, leg pain, swelling, heaviness, aching, cramping, or fatigue that gets worse after standing for long periods, you may be a good candidate for treatment.
