VenaSeal™

VenaSeal™

What Is VenaSeal™?

VenaSeal™ is a minimally invasive and effective procedure for treating varicose veins. Unlike traditional methods that require thermal ablation, VenaSeal™ uses a specially formulated medical adhesive to close the diseased vein – rerouting blood to nearby healthy veins. This procedure provides rapid recovery and typically allows patients to return to their normal activities immediately after the treatment.

VenaSeal™ represents the latest in medical technology for treating varicose veins. Many patients prefer VenaSeal™ over Radiofrequency Ablation (RF) due to its less invasive nature.

How Does VenaSeal™ Work?

The VenaSeal™ procedure involves four primary steps:
  1. Catheter Placement: Using ultrasound for guidance, a catheter is inserted into the diseased vein through a small access site.
  2. Adhesive Insertion: A specialized medical adhesive is placed into the diseased vein via the catheter.
  3. Vein Sealing: Light external pressure is applied to seal the vein walls together.
  4. Catheter Removal: The catheter is withdrawn, and a single adhesive bandage is applied to the site.
Over time the body will create scar tissue around the adhesive to permanently close the vein, and the body will then find a healthy vein to replace it.

How Long Does the VenaSeal™ Procedure Last?

A typical VenaSeal™ procedure takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour. Treatment timelines may vary based on insurance guidelines, which we adhere to in order to ensure coverage.

Is VenaSeal™ Safe?

VenaSeal™ is a safe and effective treatment option for varicose veins. It offers a 94.6% closure rate at five years, proving its long-lasting effectiveness. Risks are generally minimal, but as with any medical procedure, complications such as allergic reaction, inflammation, and thrombosis may occur. Schedule a consultation with us to get a full understanding of the risks and benefits, and our doctor can help you decide if it’s the right procedure for you.

How Long Does Recovery Take?

Recovery time after VenaSeal™ is very short, with many patients returning to normal activities immediately post-procedure. The closed vein will gradually be absorbed by the body, and blood flow will reroute to healthier veins.

Is VenaSeal™ Painful?

VenaSeal™ is designed to minimize discomfort. While you may feel a slight pinch from the needle used to access the vein, nitrous oxide is administered throughout the procedure to reduce any potential pain. Because nitrous oxide leaves the body quickly, you’ll be able to drive yourself home post-procedure.

What To Expect After Treatment?

Recovery after VenaSeal™ is generally quick and uncomplicated. Most patients experience little to no pain and can resume normal activities almost immediately. While some patients may experience temporary skin and tissue irritation, these symptoms typically resolve quickly.

What Are Potential Side Effects After Treatment?

Potential complications are minimal but may include:

  • Allergic reaction to the medical adhesive
  • Inflammation or phlebitis
  • Deep vein thrombosis

These risks are generally low, and most patients recover without issue.

VenaSeal™ may not be for you if you are allergic to nail glue (the type used in nail salons) or have three or more allergies.

Is VenaSeal™ Covered by Insurance?
