Varithena

Varithena

What Is Varithena?

Varithena is an FDA-approved prescription medicine designed to treat varicose veins caused by issues in the great saphenous vein (GSV) and other veins related to the leg’s GSV system. The treatment not only alleviates symptoms associated with varicose veins but also improves their appearance.

What is Varithena Treatment Like?

A physician administers a small amount of Varithena (Varithena polidocanol injectable foam 1%) into the affected vein. The microfoam fills the targeted section of the vein, causing it to collapse. The foam is then diluted in the bloodstream and flushed out of the system.

The procedure is minimally invasive and typically requires only one or two needle sticks. It’s also nearly painless, with only 4% of patients in clinical trials reporting pain at the injection site.

Is Varithena Effective?

Clinical studies have shown that most patients experience significant improvements in symptoms and the appearance of veins after just one Varithena treatment.

What Are the Benefits of Varithena?

Varithena offers a nonsurgical, minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins. It is efficient, requiring usually less than an hour for the procedure, and most people can return to normal activities the same day.

What’s The Recovery from Varithena Like?

Post-treatment, you should avoid heavy exercise for one week and keep your bandages dry for 48 hours. You’re advised to wear compression stockings for two weeks and maintain minimal activity, including at least 10 minutes of walking per day for a month.

Will Both Legs Need To Be Treated?

The treatment is generally focused on the area where varicose veins are prominent, which may be one or both legs. Schedule a consultation for a tailored treatment plan.

How is Blood Flow Affected?

Once the malfunctioning vein collapses due to Varithena, the blood flow naturally reroutes to healthier nearby veins.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Most patients generally need just one Varithena treatment. However, the number of treatments can vary depending on the number and size of the veins requiring attention.

What Are the Side Effects of Varithena?

Common side effects include leg pain, discomfort, and injection site bruising. More serious side effects may involve blood clots in the leg veins.

Is Varithena Covered By My Health Insurance?

Varithena is covered by most Medicare and other insurance plans. Coverage typically depends on the severity of your condition and symptoms. Give us a call and we will help you determine your coverage.
